 2023 Preview 


       Valiant Cross Academy completed the 2022 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-4 region record and a fifth place finish in Class AAA region one, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Last year Valiant Cross Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Lee-Scott Academy team by the score of 41-0.

       No team at Valiant Cross Academy ever won more games in a season than the four victories last year. The 179 points scored by the Warriors last year were a team record in a single season.

      

       Valiant Cross Academy is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only three seasons. They have managed a record of 9-20 over the past three years.




       The Warriors will be under the direction of new head football coach Oscar Berry as they enter the 2023 season.  

      

       The Warriors open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Escambia Academy on Friday, August 25 at Alabama State. Last year the Escambia Academy Cougars finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fourth place in Class AA region two. The Cougars lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Chambers Academy by a score of 56-12.

       Valiant Cross Academy and Escambia Academy have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 0-2-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2022 with Escambia Academy winning by a score of 25-18.

       Valiant Cross Academy lost AISA All-State  quarterback Amarion Mays to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

       The Warriors return AISA All-State Junior receiver NiKing Patterson. He was named to the second team last season.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1970 Monroe Academy won the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
